What we're doing here is exciting because we get to impact our clients, the people who work for our clients, and, overall, the industry. We're building brand new software so that clients of ADP and clients who are not yet part of ADP’s family will get the best in class experience for doing things that might seem mundane, like changing your direct deposit or looking at your pay, but really help expand out for those employees, how do I find a better job, how do I actually get feedback that matters.
So we get to impact clients who use our software and the employees there, which in turn lets us impact the industry by releasing software that no one else really has and becoming a true market leader in the exchange space.

The impact I think I'm making too ADP is to bring the words of our amazing people together and put those ideas into a collective vein that we are able to channelize and deliver for our business success. So we are a large organization, yet we are so close together that we are able to give this value to the business as a collective team. So it's, again, the center, I would focus, is the team. My contribution and my impact is bringing all of us together so we deliver what is needed for the business for today, tomorrow, and for the years to come.

Many companies you work for, you don't have the luxury of saying, I use my product. And in our company we actually do. We all use HR software. And specifically, we all use ADP products, right, for our own stuff. So I feel like we can be something that eats our own dog food, so to speak.
We can give feedback. We can be able to do things in terms of shaping what the product is that a lot of companies don't have the luxury of doing. They have to go to end users, get feedback, which we do as well. But it's also important to know that we are also end users. And we're a specific segment of that. We're not the full population. But we are an important segment. And we represent something that we can quickly get on a day to day basis.
So as we're building products, we can actually go to the group next to us or we can go to, you know, we got thousands of employees just on this campus that we can leverage and take advantage of to get quick feedback before we go out into the wild to get feedback from other companies. It's a much quicker loop, I think, that we have an advantage on that other companies do not.

What I feel is my impact across ADP as a whole is that I feel the product is making a huge impact. We're building software that clients actually use. And we're listening to clients and responding to their needs directly. So I feel the impact is great, especially where I work in small business services, where it's really consumer-grade software that we're building. So users from the internet are coming, they're finding our software, they're using it, and we're responding directly to their needs.

The one thing that excites me about my job is the fact that I feel like I am making a difference in the lives of our client practitioners, in the lives of our employees, the work that we do here, because we do pay people and it affects everyone around the world.

My role as a UX designer has a very big impact on ADP and we revamped the whole UI of our project. I started working on myADP when I joined. And we launched it-- in like two years if its launch, the whole look and feel was out there in the industry and we got a very good response. And I now know that even our leadership now likes to show you UI first-- before even the talk-- because visuals, you know, rule over text. So they have moved from PowerPoints to demos-- showing UI, showing functionalities. So I think design has changed how ADP works and ADP thinks about a product. And I think my role has a very big impact on that.

The Value of Choosing Us Over Another Company

[TEXT: Adam, VP, Product Management] People are here because they believe in what we are doing. They're here because they know they get to build the next generation of software for a giant company, help reshape that company, deliver something new to market. Not an opportunity people get very often.
The value of coming here is that you get the security of a big company with all of the advantages and opportunities of a small company. So while at a startup you worry about, will we raise our next round of funding, you don't have that worry here. But what you do have is the same level of pressure and urgency and work you need to do to build a brand new software product from the ground up. So again, you get to have all the advantages of a big company and all the advantages of a small company.

If I were to be asked by friends and family what we do here at ADP, my response to them is always there are some companies that are defining the online experience, and there are some companies that are defining the home experience, and then there is ADP where we're defining the entire work experience. And when you're hired at a job to the moment that you decide to leave that job, we're following you throughout that entire journey. And so at ADP, we have a level of responsibility or a challenging aspect to our roles and product to help define what that experience looks like now and in the future.

There’s a lot of really next-gen projects that are using all the modern software pieces. And then from the Java side, there’s the latest versions of Java, Microservices and a lot of interesting things going on in there. On the UI side, there’s different projects using React and Angular. So everybody’s keeping up with the latest to date.

We have a really cool stack. We use Spring Boot + Groovy which is a library that sits on top of Java. And then our UI uses React Redux with some ADP component libraries to make things a little easier, so you don’t have to worry so much about styling and CSS.

Well, I currently work on Angular, which is one of the top, most popular frameworks in front end development using JavaScript. If you are more into the backend as a developer, we are using Spring Boot, which is another fast growing, very popular– it’s been around for several years, one of those frameworks for the back end development using Java.

We use Big Data, Apache Spark, heavily, on AI and ML space. We work with Psychic Learn, PyTorch, Tensorflow, also Stage Maker.

My team specifically works with a lot of Angular, Docker, Amazon Web Services. The teams around us are using Spring Boot, Node Express. And if anyone ever has any ideas for new tools or anything, those are always open to be brought in and used.

We work with a variety of tools and technologies. Like, we have Kafka, Hazelcast, and I mean there are like a number of tools in technology that we use. And we are also progressing towards AWS, which is a boom in the market right now. So, yes, I think we constantly tries to keep changing to the latest technologies in the market. And we all are increasing our key skills, as well.
