Lead DevOps Engineer

ADP is hiring a Lead DevOps Engineer.
Well, this may be the role for you. Ready to design what’s next?
In this role, you will build innovative and flexible cloud solutions for the automation, execution, and implementation of processes that deliver products more quickly to market across ADP’s cloud-based payroll, tax, HR, and benefits solutions, while keeping them highly reliable and available.
No two days are the same. As part of a systems reliability team, you’re the first one they call from an operations standpoint to understand why an app is down. In this hands-on role, you’ll work side-by-side with the architecture and product development to design and implement CI/CD pipelines and Cloud initiatives. Every day will require you to be agile, adaptable, and fluid.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need experience creating, executing, or troubleshooting end-to-end automation scripts for the cloud. You should feel confident running the process end-to-end. You are also confident migrating data and managing change within an organization. You have come up through the ranks as a full-stack engineer and are passionate about automation. You have experience writing the code and building fully automated, highly elastic, cloud-orchestrated platforms over various IaaS providers like AWS, GCE, and/or Azure, or using on-premise solutions like ICP (IBM Cloud Private). Expert-level skills in Python and Groovy are necessary, and some experience with Java/JVM, the Spring Ecosystem, Service Mesh/Istio, Hashicorp Vault, etc. You should also possess significant experience with Cloud (AWS, EKS RDS), Containerization (K8S), Orchestration (Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Helm Charts), Clustering, CICD tools, etc. Our best engineers excel at collaborating with Application Architects, Developers, Data Scientists, and System Engineers. You’ll be accountable for something significant: the uncompromising quality of products that impact people’s lives.

SPEAKER 1: More than 900,000 businesses rely on ADP for leading HR and payroll solutions. How our products are designed is just as important as what they can do. Today, we’re going to learn why purposeful design helps our clients and their people work smarter.
SPEAKER 2: So we hear the word design used an awful lot. We hear it in development. We hear it in experience. We hear it in the UI. There’s a UI element but there’s much, much more than that. What is design to you?
SPEAKER 3: Designing for people is just part of our DNA. Our clients feeling confident in what they’re using.
SPEAKER 4: It’s more than the look and feel. Design is also about performance.
SPEAKER 5: We want to be 100% focused on their experience. When they come in, this is what they need to do and they should be able to do it quickly.
SPEAKER 4: I think ADP is doing a great job on that. Trust is one of the words that clients use a lot. They trust in ADP.
SPEAKER 2: That’s exactly right. If you help and can build that trust, they’re going to be able to have confidence to do their job or to crush it.
SPEAKER 6: One of the ways you actually crush it is by being simpler. That one button that says confirm.
SPEAKER 2: That’s right. How do when you’ve got good design? How do you measure that?
SPEAKER 5: I don’t think there is ever going to be a point where you’re going to be like, this is the final design. This is it. But I think you learn over time, it’s a dynamic thing. Is this better than what we had before? Continue to improve the design. Continue to improve the user experience.
SPEAKER 4: I think that the most important thing is really try to test it as much as possible with clients that are going to use it.
SPEAKER 2: Describe a little bit about the importance of everybody being involved in that design. Is it a single UX person or UI person but really, the whole business?
SPEAKER 7: I may have an answer. And it may be a perfectly good answer to a problem, but I’ll reach out to get other thoughts. Maybe there’s a better way. You can’t just rest on your laurels. Look at COVID in the pandemic. The way our clients and our end customers operated their businesses changed.
SPEAKER 2: Yeah.
SPEAKER 7: And if that changed, then our products have to change.
SPEAKER 3: We now release much smaller, digestible features and new functionality and new things into the system on a weekly basis. And it actually makes it much more easy for us to release it and more importantly our clients to be able to accept these things and consume them, and stay up to pace with us.
SPEAKER 7: That’s what we’re here for, empower the business to go at whatever speed it needs to go.
SPEAKER 2: I think that, to us, is what the modernization experience has been all about with work force now. Guys, I’ll tell you, if I had every day a chance to get to talk with folks like you in a conversation like this, it’d be a wonderful day to start– bringing developers together with UX folks, with executives, and product people. Thank you for your contribution.

There’s a lot of really next-gen projects that are using all the modern software pieces. And then from the Java side, there’s the latest versions of Java, Microservices and a lot of interesting things going on in there. On the UI side, there’s different projects using React and Angular. So everybody’s keeping up with the latest to date.
[TEXT: Mia, Lead Application Developer]
We have a really cool stack. We use Spring Boot + Groovy which is a library that sits on top of Java. And then our UI uses React Redux with some ADP component libraries to make things a little easier, so you don’t have to worry so much about styling and CSS.
[TEXT: Omar, Application Developer]
Well, I currently work on Angular, which is one of the top, most popular frameworks in front end development using JavaScript. If you are more into the backend as a developer, we are using Spring Boot, which is another fast growing, very popular– it’s been around for several years, one of those frameworks for the back end development using Java.
[TEXT: Manoj, Principal Data Scientist]
We use Big Data, Apache Spark, heavily on AI and ML space. We work with Psychic Learn, PyTorch, Tensorflow, also Stage Maker.
[TEXT: Oscal Principal Application Developer]
My team specifically works with a lot of Angular, Docker, Amazon Web Services. The teams around us are using Spring Boot, Node Express. And if anyone ever has any ideas for new tools or anything, those are always open to be brought in and used.
[TEXT: Anjani, Design Engineer]
We work with a variety of tools and technologies. Like, we have Kafka, Hazelcast, and I mean there are like a number of tools in technology that we use. And we are also progressing towards AWS, which is a boom in the market right now. So, yes, I think we constantly tries to keep changing to the latest technologies in the market. And we all are increasing our key skills, as well.
